MALAPPURAM: In a major move restricting student politics, the Ponnani MES College authorities have banned politics on the college campus. The decision was taken in a meeting, convened by principal at college on Monday and the ban was imposed citing various High Court orders in this regard.
A press statement issued by principal T P Abbas said that no political functions, rally and protest of any political group will be allowed inside the campus.
The ban was imposed in the backdrop of clashes between different students’ group on campus. The clash following the dispute regarding nomination paper submission for the college union election had led to the attack on college building by students’ organisation and the estimated loss of the incident was around Rs 3 lakh.
Following the incidents, 12 students were suspended from the college and the college was closed for an indefinite period. Monday’s meeting also decided to seek police protection for students and staff in the wake of ban.
